El inicio de la primera etapa del Proyecto Parque Lineal del Río Otún es una excelente noticia para la ciudad y para el departamento. La propuesta consiste en desarrollar un gran sendero peatonal con ciclorutas desde el Barrio Kennedy hasta la Florida. La cicloruta deberá conectar el tramo existente sobre la Avenida del Rio, para generar más de 10 kilómetros de cicloruta
La primera etapa incluye la construcción de un malecón, una zona de uso recreativo, la reconstrucción de la zona forestal protectora del Río Otún y un sendero peatonal con cicloruta. Esta primera etapa se desarrollará en el Barrio Kennedy.
El Proyecto Parque Lineal del Río Otún es importante por su aporte ambiental, por su contribución al desarrollo urbano y rural, incluyendo su gran aporte de espacio público, por su potencial turístico y por la posibilidad de convertirse en un gran sitio de recreación y encuentro para todos los estratos sociales de la ciudad.
Los pereiranos perdieron un gran sitio de recreación en cerritos. La intersección vial terminó con las actividades que allí se desarrollaban todos los fines de semana, desde hace muchos años. Las familias en carro o en transporte público llegaban a cerritos a comer piña, almorzar en el Restaurante Don Nasa, en la casa de cerritos de la familia Bernal y en Agosto era el sitio ideal para elevar cometas.
La cantidad de gente que visitaba cerritos es una muestra de la necesidad que tiene la ciudad de generar ese tipo de espacios con zonas verdes, con espacios al aire libre, con oferta de restaurantes y sitios de recreación para los niños. ¿Dónde estarán llevando ahora los padres a sus hijos que quieren salir al aire libre los fines de semana?
El Parque Lineal del Río Otún puede llenar ese vacío que ha dejado cerritos. El paseo los domingos al Río Otún también ha sido tradicional en vida de los pereiranos. La recuperación de los ríos y la apropiación de ese espacio por parte de los ciudadanos es una de las principales apuestas para el Sesquicentenario de la ciudad. Unir esfuerzos y completar las tres etapas para el año 2013, sería un excelente regalo para nuestro cumpleaños 150.
